05 Apr 50MW solar PV construction in Freetown, Sierra Leone
Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited, which is jointly owned by Shenzhen Energy Group Company Ltd and the China African Development Fund, plans a 20MWp-50MWp solar PV construction in Freetown, Sierra Leone, in the course of one year.
The company also has plans to develop another power plant, this time a hydropower plant, dubbed “the Benkongor Hydropower plant” in a period of four years. This will have a capacity of 160MW.

The solar PV plant will mainly augment the power generation shortages in Freetown and other parts of the West African country. It will also complement the power supply for the future construction works of the 160MW Bengongor Hydro Power plant.
MoU for the implementation of the projects already signed
The Business Development Manager of Sunon Asogli Power Ghana Limited explained that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the project has already been signed between the Ministry of Energy of Sierra Leone, representing the Government, and the Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Ltd.
This, according to Mr. Apetorgbor, took place on the 29th of March this year after a meeting with the experts of the Ministry of Energy and other key stakeholders. The Sunon Asogli Power Ghana delegation was led by Togbe Afede XIV, a Development and Investment Expert and the Director of Sunon Asogli Power Ghana.
The team also included Mr. Qun Yang, the Chairman of Sunon Asogli Power Ghana; Mr. Wang Zhengjun, the Deputy General Manager of the West Africa Development Unit; Mr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, and Mr. Li Kanglin, the Energy Expert from the West Africa Development Unit (WADU) of Shenzhen Energy Group.
